A short story

Too much of affection brings too much of  suffering.       
   Kamalam was a retired staff in a private company. Her husband Govind was working in a Government office.He loved his wife  very much that he did not give the least trouble to her.He never say any harsh words to her.All the house hold works were shared by him.While cooking he used to cut vegetables for her,washed clothes were dried and neatly pressed by him.He never think that it is below his dignity to washout the bathrooms and kitchen.While going to his office he used to drop the children and wife at the bus stop.If he happened to come early he used to prepare the coffee or tea.
                       Kamalam too very accommodating and she used to give her salary to him. Govind never took his wife to the bank and how much he has in savings and where all the investments lies are never shared to Kamalam. Whenever Kamalam asked how much the loan amount they have to pay towards the home loan,He used to say "Why are you worrying Kamalam, it is all my responsibility.Don't bother about it"Suddenly the calamity occurred in the form of an accident to Govind,in which he was fatally hit and fell in coma.His friends took him to the hospital and admitted.Now Kamalam did not know what to do.To pay for the hospital bill where to take money she did not know. Good hearted friends helped her to get loan from her office and cleared the hospital bill.
                       Meanwhile Govind  breathed his last. Kamalam now felt that she was left in a dense forest ,not knowing which way to go.As the vultures are hovering for their pray the relatives were surrounding her,to know about her financial condition.When they came to know that she did not have any assets and money at her disposal, they started to move away saying,"Kamalam be courageous. Be satisfied that your children are grown up and they will look after you."Son Raghu and daughter Rani came to her and said,"Amma,let us search appa's cupboard and find out the bank pass book."They searched the cupboard and found out not only the pass book but also the various documents regarding the investments that he has made. Rani had full faith on her brother and told her mother that her brother would look after the assets and she need not worry,as she was away from her place she could not come often.More over her children were  very young and they were going to the school. Kamalam did not give any reply as she was in a depression. Rani went to her home and after some days she rang to her mother and enquired how she was?She said to her that for a change she could visit her place
                    .Meanwhile Raghu became very selfish and his wife told him that every thing belong to him as Rani was well settled and nothing could be given to her.At the instigation of his wife Raghu started to plunder money saying one reason or the other. Kamalam also thought that by helping him he would come to a good position. Rani also gave money then there to her.Emboldened by the helplessness and destitute condition of his mother Raghu started to dominate his mother.Boldly he consumed alcohol and came to the house and his wife did not attach much importance to his bad habit.Her only aim was to silence her mother in law and make her a slave at her command confiscating all the property.
                    Whenever Kamalam went to her daughter's house and returned, the jewels kept in her cupboard were missing .When she was telling this ,both son and daughter in law turned a deaf ear and accused her that she might have misplaced it somewhere and never show any anxiety to search the same.Years rolled on, kamalam used to go her daughter's house and looked after her grand children whenever  her daughter called  her. Son's family took advantage of her absence and turned the situation to their favour. Now the son asked to transfer the properties which are in her name to his name. Kamalam refused saying that the property would be in her name till her last breath.At once the whole family became hostile and declared that she was not his mother and he was born to another mother,thus disgracing his father's character.
                   Now Kamalam decided that hereafter she should not have any touch or contact with that family and realized that she had been cheated very cleverly by her own son and came to know through a relative that he had spread the propaganda that his mother cheated him and passed on all the wealth to her daughter.He damaged  her good name in the society to the maximum .Knowing all this she took up the resolution not to believe  any blood relation or expect any one to defend and stand by her side.
               
                   This is the world nature and Kamalam  realized that God alone would be her companion and HE is the only source to whom she could relay up on in her time of distress.As surrendered every thing at HIS feet she did not have any expectation or anxiety about her future.The only thought in her is all about the Almighty.She did not even think about her last days as every thing is left in HIS hands.
