Oldage is a curse or a boon

Retirement Age:-
The retirement age is a age where you can spend your time according to your choice.So  a retiree had to spend or divide his time for doing his duties and attending his commitment. In the earning period even if he or she is willing to spare his time to attend to his passion or to the activities of his interest he could not,because his responsibilities and duties stand first,but after retirement he or she can use  her or his  time in a useful way of his choice.For example if they  are theist they can visit their favorite temples or read the books in which they are interested in 0.It is all o.k only if you have good health.Hence keeping the body fit to attend to their work is very necessary.If they don't have good health they feel very insecure.That is why most of the people want to live in their own home where they can see and live with their loved one. Familiar people and familiar place counts much.However much they are rich they don't want to move to a unfamiliar place with more facilities and amenities.

Old age is a boon or a curse
Persons in his childhood days lives with full energy and works  to lead a luxurious life but as he grow he encounters old age and faces all kinds of health and emotional problems. Old age is a boon or a curse,it all depends on three factors,that is money ,health,and relationship.Money is important both in early age as well as  in old age.In youth if you don't have money all your enjoyments in life will  be a dream. Unfulfilled dream  results in frustration,disappointment and sober mood.But if you have the luck,perseverance and will power to work, you can win the poverty.On other hand in old age you don't have stamina to do hard work and various physical problems hampers your progress.In addition to this, isolation is most often imposed purposefully or inadvertently by the families or communities.
Main reasons that the aged people are  facing:-
 In short three things are the main reasons for negligence of the elders. They are:-
 1)changing family value system
 2)the Economic compulsions
 3)neglect and abuse.
Changing family value:-With the changing time the values in family also undergone a change. A decade or two ago we had joint family where we lived with three generations that is grand parents,parents uncle aunt,niece ,nephews,sisters and brothers.But now the joint families have been split up into nuclear families.In joint families elders words were the law of the family.No one dared to oppose or say their views on a matter.So much respect was there for the elder's advice. All decision were taken by the elders.In traditional families the youngsters got love,care,affection and trust.There was integrity,honesty.sincerity and generosity. The mistakes of the youngsters were forgiven and guided in right path.The youngster in return had to care the elders.That has become their responsibility. In fixing the marriages the elders role was more important.It was a bond between two families.The grooms character alone did not fix the marriages,the two families background their morality  were taken into consideration.So if any problem arise between the couple the elders in the family take the responsibility to solve it But with the advent of nuclear families, all these values have been vanished and each one started to act independently. Independent decision in any matter was taken by themselves.As the youngsters were more educated and their earning capacities increased they start to think that they have the right of higher voice in the family.They select their life partners  with out the consent of the elders,resulting in losing the support of the family.In case of any miseries there is none to comfort.In nuclear families the family bond is absent.Their circle shrinks as husband, wife and children.Grand parents are left alone.Sons and daughters think that it is not their duty to look after their parents.They argue that they have the rights to claim the parents property but do not have the duty to look after them.So in the fag end of their days these people are left in the old age homes.
The economic compulsions:-When a person is earning he spends his money to maintain the family and to please the family members.He thinks that they would look after them when they grow old,but in most of the cases the off springs have their their own commitments and for many other reasons they are not looking after their parents.Hence it is better  to save money when they earn for their old age.Medical expenses increase on ageing.
 Neglect and abuse:- Financial reasons are the most perceived factor causing elder's abuse.Financial dependence on sons and daughters pushes the elders as their servants.Fear of compromise in their family prestige prevents the elders to take any bold decision.Next problem is their health.Their mobility is restricted as they grow old.So they depend on others for their daily chores.To prevent this elder abuse the children must be taught from their younger age that they too would face the same problem when they grow old if they don't treat the elders with respect.The mind set of the younger generation need to be constructively framed to provide elderly welfare and protection.If this behavior is instilled right from the younger age ,these younger generation will become an asset to the elders.
