The factors which influenced swami Vivekananda

Main Factors that shaped Vivekananda's charector and destiny.

1)His innate spiritual nature or his awareness of his nature.
2)The influence of his family
3)The guidance of his spiritual Guru and studies.
When he was a boy he was very active and mischievous and uncontrollable by any one. At that time  to calm him down, his mother used to drag him to sit under a tap and mutter the mantra"SIVA,SIVA".THE BOY AT ONCE WILL BE CALMED DOWN AND WOULD SIT  MOTIONLESS.From his early days while he went to sleep a light would appear between his eye brows and as he start to fall in sleep it would spread through out his body. He thought that every one would get that light before sleep.Hence he asked his friend whether he too get the bright light while he lie down to sleep.From his early age he had a passion to know about God.with his friend once he went to the upstairs and sat in meditation.They indulged deep in meditation.At that time a cobra creep ed inside.People shouted and the other boy meditating, got alarmed at the sight of the cobra and ran out of the room.where as Naren who was deep in meditation did not know anything about this and the cobra glided over the body encircled his neck and raising his hood remained there for some time .then it slithered down and disappeared.Whenever Naren dejected mood lost all his hope in God he used to get extraordinary vision and it stopped him to become an atheist.

2)The influence of his family:-The knowledge in Narendra was not like candle light but it shown like a blazing sun.His grand father who took sanyasa was also a learned man as his father. This lawyer was proficient in many languages and music.His mother Bhuvaneshwari devi the daughter of Nandalal basu was also good at singing and could recite long passages from Ramayana by heart.The first education for anyone is at the lap of his mother.So also for Naren. He first became aware of the glory of Gods and Goddesses , the greatness of sages of India and that of his ancestors among whom was his grand father DurgaPrasad. He learnt from his mom the Bengali alphabet and the the first book of English.His mother taught him how to hold loft his moral standards, even while struggling in the eddies of the world and how to take refuse at the feet of the Lord.

That is why in later years he said "I am indebted to my mother for the efflorescence of my Knowledge".
Epics were read out at noon at his house and Naren used to listen to those stories with rapt attention and it exerted great influence on his mind. His maternal grand mother's mother told many stories from Bhagavatham and vaishnava lore.The maternal grandmother also told many anecdotes of the Bhagavatham.In.later years while he gave lectures in western countries he never failed to cite examples of what he heard from these elderly ladies.

His guru:-His dynamism created spiritual restlessness.His thirst to know God was so immense that he went to many great people and asked the great question, had they ever seen God?.But returned with disappointment with unsatisfactory answers.His reasoning power did not accept any thing as it was given or said.His discriminating  and the power of judgement did not accept Sri Ramakrishna at the first sight.He respected  the western material science and its analytical process.He used them on SriRamakrishna's various supernatural experiences and accepted only those which stood the test.For a vision of Truth he was ready to give up his life.Ramakrishna could not bear the touch of coins. If ever it happened he had a burning sensation all over the body.To test this Naren kept a coin under the bed of Ramakrishna with out the knowledge of his guru.As the guru contacted the bed he sprang up as though he was stung by a scorpion.

When he met his Guru he asked him whether he has seen God. Bang came the reply that he could see him more intensely than he see him.He could talk to him   more intimately than he talk to him. One could hear his words and feel his touch.This assertive reply instilled faith in him. Naren requested his Guru to pray to solve his difficulties.For this, SriRamakrishna bluntly refused that he could not and asked him to go to  Kali  and submit his wants at her feet. .Naren also abided by his Guru, went to Kali not once but thrice to ask to remove his miseries. But each time he forgot to ask for his wants and returned empty handed.Guru scolded him and sent him again and again but the result was negative, instead he asked her to bestow him with Gnana, vairagya and knowledge.
Thus Sri Ramakrishna did not enforce anything but made him to experience himself which calmed his turbulent and argumentative mind.Thus Ramakrishna raised him from the mire of unhappiness and septicemic to certainty and peace.
